Warwick Castle located in the town of Warick is a fine example of a medieval castle. The building is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and it is leased by Merlin Entertainments, company that also owns Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London. Warick castle is a very popular tourist attraction you can't miss.

This type of medieval castle was introduced by the Normans after 1066, and was the private fortress of noblemen. The castle functioned as his home, the centre of local government and and a defensive structure of his territory. Today, Warick castle houses several rooms, a fine collection of arms and armour of about 1,000 pieces , a ghost tower and dungeons.

The great hall, the largest room in the castle was built in the 14th century as a big room where almost everything happened. The castle family sat on a raised platform at the upper end of the hall, opposite to the entrance, away from drafts and intrusion. The lord sat on a massive chair, showing his status but everyone else sat on benches. There was a fire in the centre of the room and a hole in the roof to let out the smoke and narrow window o let light in.

The red drawing room, created in the 17th century, was adjacent to the upper part of the hall, and consited of private withdrawing rooms for the landlord and his family.

A visit to the castle will let you enjoy the recreation of a royal weekend party in 1898 recreated by Madame Tussauds. As you walk from one room to the other you will notice a change of atmosphere. You're received by the Eral's butler , then you'll see gentlemen in discussion in the libray , ladies listening to music in the music room and other scenes. In the summer time, you can walk over the ever green lawn that surrounds the castle.

If you enjoy a mixture of excitement and entertainment, visiting Warick castle is a must. You can even put on an armour and take a picture of you.
